HOSPITALITY TECHNICAL COURSE:

Tuition Information

Recognizing Opportunities Inn and its demonstrated effectiveness in in the area of training and employment, the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority endorses and financially supports Opportunities lnn. Because of that support, we are able to offer instruction at no cost to the students. Culinary Art students are, however, required to purchase their uniform and utensils (an expense of approximately $200.00)

Course Descriptions

Emphasis for all courses is on the "service attitude" as well as the development and refinement of interpersonal and communication skills- skills critical to advancement and success within the hospitality industry. Students may select one of the following five courses:

Front Office Operations/Guest Services

Length: 16 Weeks

Instruction focuses on all aspects of front office procedures including PBX, reservations, proper telephone techniques, hotel terminology, salesmanship, accounting and handling customer complaints.

Culinary Arts

Length: 16 weeks

Designed to prepare students with basic knowledge and practical experience , this course highlights food sanitation, cooking and baking, food purchasing and meal planning. Instruction takes place in a fully equipped commercial kitchen.

Food Services

Length: 9 Weeks

Students learn all aspects of food and beverage service including hostessing, banquet setup and service, serving techniques, cashiering, customer relations and quality assurance. Course is taught in a simulated hotel, restaurant and banquet environment.

Room Attending

Length: 9 Weeks

Course provides technical skills training and hands on experience in-hotel guest room cleaning, room inspection,cleaning chemicals and their use, team and guest relations.

Travel & Tourism Class

Length: 16 Weeks


Students receive Retail Travel & Tourism/Tour Guide Training. This class provides instructions to educate students in the various areas of Retail Travel Industry and African-American Historical Guides (that is certified by the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau's Multicultural Affairs Congress).
